A delegation of business and government representatives from southern Idaho traveled to Paris to promote the Magic Valley's agricultural and food processing sector at the SIAL Paris 2026 trade show. The mission was organized by the Southern Idaho Economic Development Organization to attract foreign direct investment, expand export markets, and establish partnerships in food processing and agricultural technology.
According to economic development officials, agribusiness represents 48 percent of the region's economic output and supports more than 42 percent of its workforce. Southern Idaho processes approximately 80 percent of the state's milk and accounts for roughly 70 percent of commercial food-size trout raised in the United States. Major employers operating in the area include Chobani, Riverence, Glanbia Nutritionals, Agri Beef, Lamb Weston, and McCain Foods.
As part of the trade mission, the delegation scheduled a reception at the U.S. Embassy deputy chief of mission residence to showcase regional products—including Idaho caviar, trout, beef, cheese, and wine—to European executives and potential investors. SIAL Paris runs through October 21 and is projected to host around 8,000 exhibitors and 295,000 food industry professionals.
